06NOV08
Although the significance
of November, 4 2008 may escape the notice of a blinded few (for
whom truth is obscured by fruits of illusion plucked from political smear machines
and cultural "say so"), the rest of us, Christians, Democrats and Republicans
alike, can see.
We see eons of race-directed sin (slavery,
oppression, segregation, and more) suddenly being obscured by a
bright and welcoming light.
The light is a step called hope
towards an end called promise
.
On April, 4th 1968, a
Pastor whose call was to preach love and equality to American hearts was
gunned down in icy blood by a shooter who chose patterns of the world over
truth.
We'd lost Dr. King.
Without missing a beat, fully understanding the
dangers, Dr. King's dear friend, Jesse, took his torch and ran. Though Rev.
Jackson's words, means and methods may have been controversial at times, his
core purpose was never questioned by those in need or by those with
sight.
Then, 40 years later,
on November, 4th 2008, with his index finger pressed against his trembling lips, a
grayer Rev. Jackson stood alone amidst a crowd of millions in awe
of the history unfolding before him. An African-American man standing on a stage
yet visible only to truthful eyes (because his name, color and background were mysteries
to the world’s popular patterns), accepted his election to the office of
president of the United States.
While many cried in the audience...behind each tear a
million more, and behind them a million more...Jackson's tears were
different. Behind every drop of his was the force of every boy and every girl and
every man and every woman who was hanged from a tree because of pigment in their
skin; but were now finally
looking down
from heaven with delight.
A lesson was learned.
Skin color holds no moral value
or idea or intellect or talent. It is the unseen that defines a
man's character. It is the unseen
that defines a man's
relationship to God. It is the unseen
that defines the character
of a nation.
I am so grateful to God for
allowing us to witness this moment.
I love you all!
Your brother in Christ,
L Cruz
